Waiting

My great grandmother once told me she was waiting on God to come back. I asked how long she’d been waiting. She told me she’d been waiting my whole life. And she’d waited my mother’s whole life, even my grandmother’s whole life, ever since she was a little girl herself. I told her that was a very long time. She told me about how the Israelites waited over 430 years to leave Egypt and return to their homeland. I asked her if she was 430 years old. She wasn’t. She told me sometimes we have to wait a long time for things. The Israelites trusted God to rescue them. They cried out when things got tough and they continued to tell their children about the Living God. She said people would have stopped talking about God long ago if He wasn’t true. Because lies only live so long, but the truth lasts forever. Now I’m waiting, too.

Today’s story is based on Exodus 12: 29- 13:22, which is a little too long to share.
