No one knows how long she’d been adrift on that raft. A crew man first heard her cries and thought it was someone watching a show too loudly. He shouted in response to turn it down. But the crying didn’t go away and so he stepped out onto the deck and could hear her cry more clearly. The captain was walking by, heard her, and yelled back. She cried out again. It was too dark too dark to see her. The captain called for the searchlights and alarms were sounded. The lights found her floating in the shipping lane, a boat was dropped to rescue her. As it came near, she leapt away from her raft and all the supplies she had, leaving its safety behind without a second thought. A crew member snatched her up from the sea and brought her on board. Legend says she still travels with them to this day.

This story is based on Mark 10: 46-52
Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
