Johnathan is very invested in the idea of fair. But he wasn’t always interested in making life fair for others, he only wanted fair for himself. He wanted to always have his way, more than enough of everything. He was always looking out for himself and making sure that no one else had more than he did. One day, he realized he was lonely and that always thinking of himself first wasn’t as much fun as he thought it would be. Then he had an idea. If you asked him where the idea came from, he’d tell you it must have come from somewhere other than him. He sought peace instead of victory; fulfilled the needs of others instead of his own desires; and even began to listen and act on other people’s ideas instead of just his own. Johnathan used to see the world as him vs everyone. This idea helped him to want more than things for himself. He found the more he made life fair for others, the more love and mercy he found in his own life.

This story is based on James 3: 13-18
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
